This application note explains how to ensure titanium dioxide quality using in-line pH measurement in real time. Manufacturers of titanium dioxide (TiO2), must contend with several challenging factors in order to maximize TiO2 yield during the production process whether usable product is derived from the sulfate method or chloride process. Utilizing sensors designed to monitor pH in scaling conditions is crucial, as the precipitating solid has the tendency to form layers on sensor surfaces. METTLER TOLEDOs line of pH sensors includes models such as theInPro 4260i pH sensorwhich are specifically designed for these conditions. Download the application note to learn more.
METTLER TOLEDOs portfolio of products for ensuring titanium dioxide quality includes:
InPro 4260i pH sensor The InPro 4260i pH sensor is optimal for ensuring titanium dioxide quality due to its solid polymer-type reference electrolyte, Xerolyt
, which allows for an open diaphragm. This means the reference electrolyte is in direct contact with the measurement fluid, and eliminates the need for the microporous diaphragms commonly used with liquid electrolyte systems. Such diaphragms are very susceptible to blockage from particles, whereas the InPro 4260is open diaphragm resists clogging and is easier to clean. The InPro 4260i pH sensor is equipped with predictive diagnostics that support titanium dioxide manufacturing by ensuring that your pH sensor is consistently measuring accurately, and they inform you when your pH sensor needs to be taken out of the titanium dioxide process for cleaning, calibration and replacement
InTrac 781 retractable housing Inserting and retracting the InPro 4260i pH sensor can be accomplished through the use of an InTrac
781 retractable housing. In the retracted position, the probe sits in a cleaning chamber where four spray nozzles clean any build - up on the sensor. A backwash spray also flushes solids built up on the insertion rod back into the process. The insertion rod also provides physical protection to the sensor from fast flowing process liquid and solids that could damage the measurement glass. When measurement is not needed, the sensor can remain in the retracted position in a liquid environment, ensuring the hydrated layer does not dry out and providing longer sensor life.
